Accessible without entry to the museum – A warm and friendly atmosphere awaits you, with ample free parking and disabled access. A popular venue for cyclists and dog walkers. Whether you are catching up with friends and family or looking for some quiet time alone to enjoy a coffee with the newspaper, the tearoom is a great place to pop in for a light lunch or snack, with a selection of freshly made toasted sandwiches, scones, soup, pies and cakes.
We can cater for group bookings and private events or provide room hire only.

Currently located within the tearoom, we offer a range of handcrafted items created in Bowes workshops by our team of skilled volunteers. Commissions are also very popular and recent items include Weather Vanes created in the Blacksmiths Forge, Wooden Trains and a miniature Wagon which can be adapted for many uses such as a feature garden planter or fancy storage container suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
