Heritage Walks

Our popular local heritage walk returns for 2026 Take a guided walking tour around the area of Bowes Railway in Springwell, including a visit to the historic Blackham’s Hill Hauler House.

This fascinating 2-hour walk explores the two very old colliery railways which both operated rope haulage systems in this area. The highlight of the walk will be the rare opportunity to look around the inside of the hauler house to see the preserved machinery which moved the wagons up and down lines.

The walks will start and finish at Bowes Railway Museum in Springwell. The walk will take place at 10am Friday 7th August.
