History Bowes Railway was a busy mining colliery with a unique rope worked railway system, built to carry coal from its own pit at Springwell and other pits in north west Durham to the Tyne at Jarrow.
Volunteering Woodwork, Blacksmithing, Restoration, Painting, Tour Guiding and serving in the Tearoom during events are just a few of the things our volunteers help with. If you would like to become part of the Bowes Team as a volunteer, please contact us!
