We were delighted to receive grant funding prior to lockdown in 2019 from the Association Of Independent Museums.

The funding was to tackle the preservation and care of some of the smaller objects and items in Bowes Railway's collection. The grant enabled the purchase of some conservation basics, including new storage solutions for objects such as mining lamps, books, maps and photographs. Environmental monitoring controls to combat pests and heating provision to reduce mould in the archive storage room and miners cottage exhibition which have been subject to damp and fluctuating conditions, particularly during the winter months.

Preservation of these historic assets is essential for future generations and whilst there is still much work to be done, this funding has certainly made a difference for which we are most grateful.
